Amangwane Camp is a community development joint venture. A large portion of the profits go directly to the local community and our activities also support several other local community initiatives. The accommodation is in the form of rustic reed chalets, which are basic but comfortable. We have 10 chalets – each with twin beds and en-suite bathroom.
Relax in the pleasant Lapa area at the end of an exciting day and share stories around the warmth of the campfire.
Everyone leaves Kosi Bay with new friends! |

When you take a walk down to Kosi Bay mouth you will be amazed at the beauty that lies before you. As far as the eye can see there is lush green bush filled with the hum of birds and wildlife, sea and sandy shores for miles and miles on end, and the amazing bay that opens into the sea. Dotted around the entrance to the river are hundreds and thousands of man made traditional fish traps. For centuries (some 700 years) the locals have used these fish traps to catch fish in the river mouth and the tradition is passed on from generation to generation.
One of your hosts, whose family has been in the area for generations, will take you to his fish traps and explain how they work. He will show you how they are made and after demonstrating how he spears the fish, you are encouraged to try and catch one yourself. What you catch you keep – we can prepare it for your dinner. |

From Kosi Bay both Tembe Elephant Reserve and Ndumo are easily accessible and close by. A day trip to Tembe could result in sightings of their enormous elephants, as well as Lions, Hyaena and Black Rhino. Both parks are 4x4 only, so we take a guided open safari vehicle to explore. These game drives also offer a superb opportunity for bird enthusiasts to spot a vast amount of bird life in the area. |

They may not be as fierce as lions or as graceful as a fish eagles, but turtles and their fascinating way of life are fast becoming a popular tourist attraction. Generally secretive animals by nature, the stretch known as ‘Turtle Country’ – from St Lucia to Kosi Bay, offers the unique opportunity to view the magnificent Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles. Especially at high tides during the summer ‘turtle’ season from November to February when the females come ashore to nest. Booking a day or night tour with a local community guide to witness this rare and awe-inspiring event with your own eyes is truly something not to be missed. |
